Press Release ___________________________________________________________
24th April 2008- Group faults judgment in Nasarawa rape case
7th January 2008
Defence for Children International Nigeria Section (DCI-Nigeria) and do hereby express our dismay over the reported cases of Child Rape in Kano State, Nigeria.
These actions show a total disregard for the rights of children and their need for protection and thereby constitute an act of Violence against Children. The rape of children is in direct violation of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, to which Nigeria is a signatory.
DCI-Nigeria, as an organization working to defend, promote and protect the rights of the Nigerian child, do hereby strongly condemn, in no unmistaken terms, these atrocities against our children.
We therefore call on civil society, community leaders, UN and other related agencies, the Ministry of Women Affairs, the government of Kano State and the Federal Government, to join us in campaigning against these impious acts in Kano State.
